Deepika Padukone is reportedly in talks to join Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt in Brahmastra: Part Two – Dev, marking a potential return to the Astraverse. Director Ayan Mukerji and his team are currently working on the script, with Ranbir set to begin shooting for the sequel in April 2027 after completing Ramayana Part 2. The sequel is expected to be significantly bigger in scale than its predecessor and will take the mythology and supernatural world established in Brahmastra: Part One – Shiva much further.
Deepika Padukone’s Reported Role as Amrita
One of the biggest talking points is the reported casting of Deepika Padukone. According to Bollywood reports, Ayan is currently in discussions with the actress for the role of Amrita, the mother of Ranbir’s character Shiva and a key figure in the Astraverse mythology. Ranbir is expected to portray both Shiva and Dev, with Alia Bhatt returning as Isha. The sequel is reportedly set to explore the backstory of Dev while expanding the franchise’s mythology and introducing audiences to a much larger world inspired by Indian mythology. However, Deepika's involvement is yet to be officially confirmed.
Production Timeline and Ranbir’s Packed Lineup
There had been speculation that Brahmastra 2 was put on the back burner following the underwhelming response to Ayan’s War 2, but the latest developments suggest that the project is moving ahead. Producer Namit Malhotra has previously confirmed that the sequel will proceed after Ramayana, although the reported April 2027 shooting schedule is yet to be officially announced. For Ranbir, the film will add another major franchise to an already packed lineup that includes Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War and Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal Park. With Brahmastra 2 expected to be much more ambitious than its predecessor, the return to the Astraverse could be one of Bollywood’s biggest cinematic events in the coming years.
