De De Pyaar De 2 is a sequel to the 2019 film ‘De De Pyaar De’, which starred Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and Tabu. Madhavan joins Rakul and Ajay for the follow-up, and let’s check whether the film lives up to its predecessor in our review.

Story:

The story continues from the first film. After Ashish (Ajay Devgn) convinces his family to accept his relationship with the younger Ayesha (Rakul Preet Singh), a new challenge begins: getting her parents to agree. Rakesh (R Madhavan) and Anju (Gautami Kapoor) see themselves as “educated and progressive,” but allowing their daughter to date a man almost twice her age truly tests those beliefs. These expected conflicts move the story ahead.

Performances:

Rakul Preet Singh gets a strong and well-written role, and she performs it very well. Ajay Devgn stays cool and confident, and he also steps back at times to let Rakul and the others shine.

Madhavan is very good as the heroine’s father, showing both selfish and caring sides of the character. His chemistry with Gautami Kapoor is excellent, and she also delivers a solid performance. Javed Jaffri adds good laughs, while Meezaan and the rest of the cast are fitting in their roles.

Analysis:

The first half delivers enough drama, even though it occasionally feels predictable, but the comedy works well and keeps the film enjoyable. There is a fun nod to Ajay’s popular pan masala ad, along with clever references to Singham and DDLJ that land nicely.

The second half follows a familiar pattern, and about twenty minutes of melodrama slows things down. However, the pre-climax and climax, where Rakul takes the lead, bring the energy back.

Positives:

  • Performances
  • Fun Moments
  • Pre-Climax and Climax

Negatives:

  • Dragged Melodramatic Parts in the Second Half
  • A Few Repetitive Scenes

De De Pyaar De 2 Review and Verdict:

Overall, De De Pyaar De 2 is a decent watch. It may not have many surprises, and a few parts in the second half feel uneven, but it still manages to entertain with good performances and humor.
