The government of India has decided to confer Dadasaheb Phalke award to Superstar Rajinikanth. Union Minister Prakash Javedkar made the announcement through a tweet earlier on Thursday. The prestigious award is being conferred to Rajinikanth for his invaluable contribution to the filed of cinema.

Rajinikanth’s achievements and his rightful claim to one of the biggest awards in Indian cinema are unquestionable. However, the timing of the announcement is being questioned by a few. Certain sections are claiming the Dadasaheb Phalke award to Superstar Rajinikanth is an appeasement move considering upcoming elections in TN.
The superstar is yet to release a statement on this honour conferred to him.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also tweeted congratulating Superstar on being conferred with the prestigious award. He has been honoured with the Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan in the past.
