Cult Box Office Verdict: Vishwak Sen’s Film Is a Disaster

Vishwak Sen’s Cult has turned out to be a big disaster at the box office. The slasher thriller collected only around ₹4.5 Cr gross worldwide in its opening weekend, and the numbers have dropped even further on Monday.

With this trend, the film is heading for a single-digit closing gross.

Lower Than Funky

That would put Cult below even Vishwak Sen’s last film, Funky, which managed around ₹13 Cr gross in its full run. Cult is now set to finish well short of that number.

A Tough Run for Vishwak Sen

Cult adds to a difficult phase in Vishwak Sen’s career. His recent films have struggled one after another:

  • Mechanic Rocky
  • Laila
  • Funky
  • Cult

Four failures in a row has put a lot of pressure on the young star.

This One Hurts More

What makes Cult’s failure sting more is that Vishwak Sen directed the film himself. It was a project he backed strongly, both as an actor and as a filmmaker, and the bold slasher genre was a big creative risk.

But the extreme violence kept family audiences away, and the film couldn’t find an audience beyond a small group of viewers. It also faced tough competition, releasing on the same day as Venkatesh and Trivikram’s Aadarsha Kutumbam.

The Silver Lining: ENE Repeat

There is one big positive for Vishwak Sen. His next release, ENE Repeat, is just around the corner. The sequel to the cult favourite Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi hits theatres on November 19, and the film already has good craze among the youth.

Ee Nagaraniki Emaindi is one of the films that made Vishwak Sen popular, and fans have been waiting for the sequel for years. Coming just three weeks after Cult, it could be just the comeback he needs.
