This year Kollywood’s Pongal clash saw Dhanush’s Captain Miller and Sivakarthikeyan’s Ayalaan battling it out. Both films have recorded the highest budget and pre-release business for their respective heroes. Dhanush and Sivakarthikeyan have equal markets and have the same range of stardom in Tamil and it was interesting to see who will emerge victorious.
In Tamil Nadu, Captain Miller collected around Rs 6.5Cr opening day collections while Aylaaan managed around Rs 3.5 crores start. Overall, Captain Miller worldwide gross is in the range of Rs 13 Cr while that of Aylaan is around Rs 6.7Cr. Dhanush’s Captain Miller has managed to register almost double the openings than Aaylaan worldwide.
Pre-festival factor has impacted both the films and both couldn’t match the overall expectations. The positive sign for Sivakarthikeyan’s Ayalaan is that today it is holding good occupancies. Coming to Dhanush’s Captain Miller, the numbers are almost the same and the favourable reviews and positive word of mouth will only boost the collections and we can expect bigger numbers tomorrow onwards.
