Director Vamsi Paidipally has been consistently delivering box office successes, but he has not yet delivered a massive blockbuster with huge profits for the producers. Looking at his past films, a clear pattern can be seen.
For Yevadu, a large amount of footage was shot, and the team had to trim many scenes. The film also faced several postponements. Although it became a box office success, it did not generate big profits for the producers.
Vamsi Paidipally’s unusual track record
In the case of Oopiri, the budget went up significantly. Even though the film received good reviews and performed well at the box office, it did not earn strong profits when compared to its high budget. Similarly, Maharshi also had excessive footage, leading to heavy trimming. Despite being a box office hit, it failed to bring major profits to the producers.
With his last film, Varisu, a major issue was the high remuneration paid to Vijay, which increased the budget considerably. As a result, the film’s producers did not make big profits, and Vamsi Paidipally’s work faced heavy criticism.
Vamsi Paidipally needs to reinvent himself
Vamsi Paidipally has now signed his next film with Salman Khan under Dil Raju’s production. For this project, he needs to correct two major issues. First, he must prove his talent by delivering unique content and fresh treatment, instead of relying on a routine commercial formula. Second, he needs to strictly control shooting schedules and runtime so that the film is completed within the planned budget.
The OTT market has slowed down, and in Bollywood, anything can happen at the box office; a film can either collect huge numbers or fail completely. Since there is no distributor-based non-recoverable advance (NRA) model here, the entire risk lies with the producer. Dil Raju will be carrying all the financial risk, and this time, Vamsi Paidipally must deliver a massive and profitable film in return, especially as Dil Raju has continuously supported him.
