Sivakarthikeyan’s Ayalaan was released for Pongal alongside Dhanush’s Captain Miller and performed extremely well in Tamil Nadu and collected around Rs 57Cr gross. The film worked out well for the buyers and collected Rs 20Cr more than Captain Miller.
While the film’s performance in Tamil Nadu performance was quite good, the same can’t be said about the Rest of India areas like Karnataka and Kerala. It failed to match the numbers of Captain Miller in these regions. The Telugu version also wasn’t released due to financial issues.
Overall, the film has collected just around Rs 4 Cr from the Rest Of India. In the overseas market, Ayalaan has collected around Rs 17Cr gross taking the total worldwide gross to 78Cr gross.
The film’s Box office numbers are decent but not great compared to the budget and visuals it. Director R Ravikumar revealed that the main reason for this was that the shooting was completed many years ago so the visuals might have looked slightly old. Ayalaan’s sequel has already been announced with a 50cr budget allocated to CG and VFX.
