Nani and Nazriya’s romantic comedy Ante Sundaraniki was released in theatres on 10th June and opened to mostly positive talk from audiences. The film was fun, breezy, and wholesome in most parts but yet, it failed to establish a connection with the larger Telugu audiences.
Owing to this, the film failed to obtain passing marks at the theatrical level and ended up as an average venture. There are a number of reasons for the movie underperforming in theatres. Firstly, the saturation of releases in the month of June meant that there was no breathing space for the film.
Secondly, the audiences no longer seem to be in the mood for a rom-com. The success of movies like Pushpa, RRR, and KGF speak volumes about the evolved taste of the audiences.
However, all is not sad as Ante Sundaraniki has passed with flying colors at the OTT level. Ante Sundaraniki was released on Netflix on 10th July and has received a tremendous response from netizens. The movie is currently trending at #1 for the Telugu version and #6 for the Tamil version.
This was also the case with Nani’s previous release Shyam Singha Roy, which performed above average at the cinema halls. But, it was hailed by netizens once the film was released on Netflix.
