The wait to know who Rukmini is has finally ended. The makers of Nithiin’s Alias Rukmini have released a special glimpse introducing debutant Aafiya Sayed as Rukmini, the title character of the film. Presented by Nani, the romantic entertainer releases worldwide on December 4.
The Strictest Teacher in School
The glimpse is short, fun and full of personality. It opens in a busy school corridor, with students rushing around as Rukmini walks in, dressed in a yellow and pink saree, reading a book with a calm smile.
Then comes the twist. On the school notice board, the students have put up a drawing of her, labelled “Devil”, “Hitler” and “Homework Police”. Rukmini stops, looks at the chart, and her calm expression slowly turns serious. A group of students watching from a distance freeze, clearly knowing they are in trouble.
The final shot shows the full drawing with her name written in red, followed by Rukmini raising a finger to her lips with a sharp “shh”, a moment that perfectly sums up her character.
A Fresh Face for a Fresh Story
Aafiya Sayed makes her debut as the female lead with Alias Rukmini. Her introduction works because it does not try too hard. In under a minute, the glimpse establishes her as strict, sharp and a little scary for her students, while hinting at a softer side behind the stern look.
The glimpse also answers the question the makers had been teasing since the title announcement. In the first video, Nani asked “Who is this Rukmini?”, and Nithiin answered, “Rukmini is my wife.” Now audiences know: the woman Nithiin’s Krishna calls his wife is the most feared teacher in her school.
Nani’s Stamp of Approval
Alias Rukmini is presented by Nani and produced by his sister Deepthi Ganta under Unanimous Productions. Nani has called it “probably the most beautiful Telugu film of the year.”
The film is written and directed by Murali Kanth Devasoth, who earned appreciation for his debut Dandoraa. Vijay Bulganin is composing the music.
A Big Film for Nithiin
Alias Rukmini is a very important film for Nithiin. After a long run of flops with big mass entertainers, the actor has moved to simple, content-driven films, and Alias Rukmini is the first from this new phase. He plays Krishna, an ordinary man whose quiet life changes when love and an unexpected secret enter it.
With a fresh heroine, a fun character introduction and Nani backing the film, Alias Rukmini has made a promising start to its campaign. The film releases worldwide on December 4.
