Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee was released yesterday and the film’s openings and lack of buzz have shocked one and all. The advance booking status was disappointing and the makers were banking on good word of mouth and positive reviews to bail the movie out. However, both these didn’t happen and the movie is off to a terrible start.
Selfiee is a remake of the 2019 Malayalam superhit film Driving License which starred Prithviraj Sukumaran and Suraj Venjaramoodu. This Bollywood remake stars Emraan Hashmi alongside Akshay Kumar. Despite aggressive promotions, the movie didn’t get off to a good start.
With Pathaan, Bollywood trade circles thought the Hindi cinema market was back but with last week’s release, Shehzada proved everyone wrong with around 6Cr opening. Now, Akshay Kumar’s Selfiee gave another shock with an opening of 2.25Cr nett which is shocking. It seems now the Bollywood audience have decided they want interesting combinations and unique concepts or else they won’t encourage the films.
