Post its massive success in Kerela and Telugu states, Malayalam all-time blockbuster 2018 was also released in the north Indian market in its Hindi version. Unfortunately, the film failed to recreate the magic in its Hindi version and is on its way to becoming a massive box-office disaster.
The film failed miserably on its Hindi release and could not even recover P&P. So far, 2018 has just collected around 25L gross in Hindi markets and its box-office run is pretty much over. This performance is quite contrasting to what 2018 did down south. 2018 beat the previous Malayalam all-time Industry hit Pulimurugan and is still performing well. Similarly, the Telugu states also responded positively to this film and this survival thriller registered solid occupancies in most territories.
The lack of promotions or the absence of familiar faces appears to be the major cause for the film’s abysmal performance in Hindi. The film will soon hit the OTT as well with the official announcement already made for a June 7th release.
The film features a massive ensemble cast comprising Tovino Thomas, Indrans, Kunchacko Boban, Aparna Balamurali, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Asif Ali, Lal, and Narain among others. Jude Anthony Joseph directed this film which was well appreciated for its thrilling elements and natural depiction of the 2018 floods.
