Story:
A revolutionary leader named Perumal (Vijay Sethupathi) is arrested for police and they keep him secretly under custody, and when this news leaks, it sparks chaos among his followers. To keep things simple, the higher officials send a police officer’s team to guide Perumal through a heavy forest, but an ambush set by his supporters creates confusion. The plot centers on what happens to Perumal along with showing his backstory.
Performances:
Vijay Sethupathi delivered a commendable performance as Perumal/Master. His acting in some crucial scenes is worth mentioning. Soori was sidelined for most of the film and got some scope at the end. Manju Warrier was fine, while Bhavani Sre was barely seen, Gautam Vasudev, Rajiv Menon, Chethan, Bala Hasan and other artists who appeared as police officers were apt.
Analysis:
The film starts exactly where Vidudhala 1 ended. The initial sequences that show why the schoolmaster Perumal got attracted to communism work well. Karuppan’s episode sets the intrigue but after that Vetrimaaran sidelines the film’s path by opening the flashback of Perumal. Till the midpoint, the film meanders a bit aimlessly. Also, after a point, the story frequently adopts a lecture-style approach regarding communism and oppression, which lessens its emotional resonance. Although the flashback episodes capture attention at first, they become stretched out. The shootout episode in the forest is also dragged, adds to the overall fatigue, and ends with an unfinished climax.
Positives:
- Vijay Sethupathi’s Performance
- First 30 Minutes
- Few Intriguing Scenes
Negatives:
- Dragged Flashback
- Repetitive Scenes
- Boring Moments in the first half
- Mishandled Climax
Vidudhala 2 Movie Review and Verdict:
Vidudhala Part 2 is a Confused Action Drama. Vijay Sethupathi’s performance, a few poignant moments along with well-crafted fights work well for the film, while the dullness and confusion in the Screenplay and uneven feel in the latter half work against it.
