Thug Life Release Controversy in Karnataka – Kamal responds with a Letter
It is widely known that the Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) banned the release of Thug Life in Karnataka after he made a controversial statement that “Kannada is born out of Tamil.”
In a letter addressed to the KFCC president, Haasan said his comments at the Thug Life audio launch in Chennai were “misunderstood” and clarified that they were made out of “genuine affection” for the legendary Dr. Rajkumar’s family in Karnataka.
Before that, the High Court slammed Kamal Haasan and said that the circumstances were created by him, and an apology should have resolved everything. To clear up the Thug Life controversy, Kamal Haasan writes a letter to KFCC.

The Thug Life actor expressed disappointment that his comments were misinterpreted. “It pains me that my statement has been misunderstood, despite being spoken with genuine intent,” the Thug Life actor wrote. He also underscored that there is no contention over the proud legacy of Kannada.

“Like Tamil, Kannada too has a rich literary and cultural tradition,” he affirmed, noting that he holds both languages and cultures in high esteem. The letter appeared to be an attempt to address hurt sentiments and defuse the brewing tensions between the Kannada film fraternity and his production team.
