Based on a real incident, Thella Kaagitham stars Harsh Roshan (Court fame) and Nakshatra in the lead roles. The film’s posters and promos were impressive, building anticipation for this teenage love story. Here’s our Thella Kaagitham review.
Story
The story follows teenagers Ramu and Asha who study in the same school and fall in love, continuing their romance even after entering Intermediate. Things take an unexpected turn when both take a big step, and the rest of the story is about the kinds of hardships and consequences the young couple faces.
Performances
Harsh Roshan appears confident and delivers a convincing performance as a youngster, showing the required naivety. Debutante Nakshatra is also good with her performance, and she could have done better given more scope.
Deepak Mali provides some good laughs in the friend character, while Ajay is decent in a strict yet doting father role. Rajkumar Kasireddy and Goparaju Ramana are okay, while Saranya is totally wasted.
Analysis
Ramesh Bandreddi writes and directs Thella Kaagitham. It is a regular teenage love story with a socially relevant message. Nothing is wrong with wanting to deliver a message-oriented love story, but the execution is what makes the film fizzle.
The film starts on a decent note and the first half delivers adequate entertainment with the fun parts working well. The romance is also decent with a couple of songs coming out well, and the lead pair’s chemistry works. The serious turn arrives at the interval, which itself has a forced staging.
The second half then moves on a completely dull note, stretching a single point till the end. It wants us to feel for the lead couple, but there is no emotional connection because their actions appear silly or foolish, rather than prompted by unavoidable circumstances. Similar to recent films like Romanchakam, where the romance track struggled to connect with audiences, Thella Kaagitham fails to build empathy for its central couple.
Even though the lead couple faces hardships at a young age, viewers don’t feel for them. Towards the climax, the director tries to deliver a gut-wrenching message, but the weak buildup and staging till then do not deliver the intended depth.
Positives
- First 30-40 Minutes
- Lead Pair’s Performances
- A Couple of Songs
Negatives
- Forced Emotions
- Stretched Second Half
- Key Scenes Appear Silly
- Artificial Climax
Thella Kaagitham Review And Verdict
Thella Kaagitham is a well-intended, message-oriented love story that benefits from decent performances by Harsh Roshan and Nakshatra, along with some entertaining moments in the first half. However, the film fails to evoke emotional impact in the latter half and suffers from a stretched screenplay, weak scenes, and a forced ending.
