Thamma is the latest romantic horror film from Bollywood and the fifth installment in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe. Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, it stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Rashmika Mandanna in the lead roles. The film’s music is a hit though the trailer did not rise the excitement among fans. Let us see how the film has been shaped up in our review.

Story:

Alok Goyal (Ayushmann Khurrana), a journalist from Delhi, heads into a forest with his colleagues for an assignment. During the trip, he is unexpectedly attacked by a bear but is saved by Tadaka (Rashmika Mandanna), a mysterious vampire. Alok quickly falls for her and, due to certain circumstances, brings her home, unaware of her true identity. The rest of the story explores how Tadaka and her clan, led by Yakshasan (Nawazuddin Siddiqui), change Alok’s life forever.

Ayushmann Khurrana delivers a smooth and natural performance, adding humor and emotion where needed. Rashmika Mandanna shines in her unique role, portraying the vampire with the right body language and intensity. Paresh Rawal adds comic relief, while Nawazuddin Siddiqui impresses despite limited screen time. Geeta Agarwal leaves a mark, and Faisal Malik, Rachit Singh, and others do a decent job.

Analysis:

Directed by Aditya Sarpotdar, Thamma offers one of the most engaging plots in the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe (MHCU). The film features some strong and important scenes, especially in the second half, along with entertaining moments that keep the story moving.

While the screenplay has a few weak spots and some scenes lack the expected impact, the film regains its pace near the climax and ends with a clever tease for future MHCU films.

Thamma Review and Verdict:

Overall, Thamma benefits from perfect star cast and strong performances, intriguing storyline, and exciting sequences. Despite a few flaws, it manages to hold the audience’s attention till the end.
