Renowned music director Thaman recently opened up about his involvement in the highly successful film ‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’, which had its global release on December 5, 2024. He revealed that he contributed to the film’s background score, working for ten days to create three different versions. Although his work was well-received by the production team, the final background score featured compositions by Devi Sri Prasad (DSP) and Sam CS.
This sequel took a unique approach in terms of music, with director Sukumar bringing in multiple composers—including Thaman, B. Ajaneesh Loknath, and Sam CS—to experiment with the film’s soundscape. Eventually, the team decided to go ahead with a blend of DSP and Sam CS’s work for the final cut. Thaman stated that the choice was made collectively, and he respected the team’s creative vision, expressing no regrets over the outcome.
‘Pushpa 2: The Rule’ emerged as a massive box-office hit, raking in over ₹1,7p0 crore globally. It now holds the title of the highest-grossing Indian film of 2024 and ranks as the third highest-grossing Indian film ever. The movie is currently streaming on Netflix, featuring a reloaded version with additional scenes. Thaman officially confirmed his contribution to the film’s music only recently, marking his first public statement on the matter since the film’s release.
