Starring Madhavan, Nayanthara and Siddharth as the leads, Test is a direct OTT release, directed by S. Sashikanth. The film gathered good craze because of its casting and interesting teaser/trailer. Let’s find out whether it has lived up to the expectations in our review.

Story:

Arjun Venkatraman (Siddharth) ranks among India’s best cricketers, but poor performance prompts the board to request his retirement. He doesn’t surrender. Kumudha (Nayanthara), a teacher, seeks motherhood via IVF, but her husband Saravanan (Madhavan) disagrees. Saravanan is an MIT scientist and is diligently working on a project that may transform India’s future. All three face a hard test from life. Their handling of it drives the narrative.

Performances:

Madhavan is fine with his performance and tries to infuse the intensity regardless of character believability. Nayanthara performs well, but Siddharth appears as a misfit. Meera Jasmine, Kaali Venkat, and the supporting cast had limited roles, but child actor Lirish Rahav, as Aditya (Arjun’s son), delivers genuine emotion and makes an impact.

Analysis:

Director Sashikanth’s film Test features a great main plot. The characters’ introduction and setup are flawless. As it progresses, the writing lacks impact and feels superficial. One hopes that the things will change in the latter half, but it doesn’t happen.

The emotional tension between Siddharth and Madhavan didn’t resonate. The addition of elements like cricket betting lacked intrigue. While the climax provides a glimmer of hope, it ends abruptly and fails to resolve important uncertainties regarding the main characters.

Positives:

  • Main Plot
  • Few Dialogues/Scenes

Negatives:

  • Sluggish Narrative
  • Unconvincing Characters/Writing
  • Lacks the Required Thrill/Tension
  • Abrupt Climax

Test Movie Review and Verdict:

Even with stars like Madhavan, Nayanthara, and Siddharth, Test falls short and fails to captivate. If you’re not looking for anything too special and just want to see some good acting, it’s fine, but otherwise it is a bore fest.
