After Raanjhanaa and Atrangi Re, Dhanush joins hands with Anand L Rai for Tere Ishk Mein and Kriti Sanon joins him as the lead. The film’s trailer caught everyone’s attention and the music by AR Rahman also worked well. Let us see how this talented team has made this movie in the following review.

Story:

Flight Lieutenant Shankar Gurrukkal (Dhanush) is a short-tempered fighter pilot who dislikes following orders, which leads to him being grounded for indiscipline. To deal with his anger issues, he is asked to meet a counsellor. Mukti Behniwaal (Kriti Sanon), the assigned counsellor, is heavily pregnant, struggling with alcohol, and also shares a bitter past with Shankar. The film moves back and forth between their past and present, focusing on their relationship and how it eventually concludes.

Performances:

Dhanush and Kriti Sanon deliver excellent performances, lifting the film with their strong screen presence. Prakash Raj adds emotional depth with his natural acting. Tota Roy Chowdhury’s role is not written well, while Priyanshu Painyuli leaves a decent impact. Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub appears briefly and does a good job.

Analysis:

Director Anand L. Rai tells a chaotic and intense love story in Tere Ishk Mein. The film begins with the Indian Air Force facing a near-war situation. After introducing the hero and heroine, the narrative shifts to flashback mode. The college scenes feel routine, but as the film moves forward, several well-written moments, emotional conversations between the leads, and a few songs work effectively.

The tone becomes serious towards the interval, and the second half is even more intense. Some major sequences stand out, especially the stretch involving Mukti’s marriage announcement, Shankar’s violent reaction, their long conversation, and the tragic turn that follows. The pre-climax also works well, though the climax could have been better.

However, the writing by Anand L. Rai could have been stronger in portraying the characters and their behavior in certain situations. The developments between Shankar and Mukti, and between Shankar and Mukti’s IAS officer father, feel rushed. Shankar’s distrust of his colleagues and his reckless attitude at work also needed better establishment.

Positives:

  • Dhanush and Kriti Sanon’s Performance
  • Intense/Emotional Scenes and Dialogues
  • AR Rahman’s Music

Negatives:

  • Stretched Screenplay
  • Weak Writing At Times

Tere Ishk Mein Review and Verdict:

Overall, Tere Ishk Mein is not a typical love story. It stands out because of the superb performances by Dhanush and Kriti Sanon, AR Rahman’s music, and some powerful emotional scenes. Despite a stretched screenplay and inconsistent writing, the film is a decent one-time watch.
