Tamil Nadu theatres are likely to face difficulties in allocating screens for Pongal 2026 clash, as two major films are scheduled for release close to each other. Vijay’s Jana Nayagan is set to release on January 9, followed by Sivakarthikeyan’s Parasakthi on January 10.
There is still uncertainty surrounding both releases, as the censor process has not yet been completed. With only six days left for Jana Nayagan and seven days for Parasakthi, theatres have not yet confirmed advance booking dates. National multiplex chains outside Tamil Nadu are also struggling to open ticket bookings without receiving the censor certificates.
Jana Nayagan Vs. Parasakthi: Tamil Box Office Set for a Massive Clash
Theatres in Tamil Nadu are under heavy pressure due to this Pongal clash. Single-screen theatres, in particular, are facing challenges in managing show timings and opening advance bookings. Some single screens are planning to open online bookings from Monday, even without the censor certificate.
Meanwhile, overseas distributors are also waiting for censor clearance for both films. It is important to note that Jana Nayagan and Parasakthi are said to contain several political scenes and themes, which could be a reason for the delay.
