Sudha Kongara, the acclaimed director behind critically acclaimed films like Soorarai Pottru, has moved the Madras High Court against Dawn Pictures, the production house behind Parasakthi starring Sivakarthikeyan. The legal complaint alleges ₹8.39 crore in unpaid remuneration for her work on the film.
The Legal Dispute Over Unpaid Remuneration
According to reports, the Madras High Court has indicated that the satellite release of Parasakthi should not proceed until July 8, 2026. The plea filed by Sudha Kongara also seeks to restrain the July 10 release of Idhayam Murali, an upcoming Tamil romantic drama.
Dawn Pictures was preparing to release Idhayam Murali next month, but these legal proceedings have created uncertainty around the planned release date. The production house now faces a challenging situation with two projects caught in the legal dispute.
Impact on Idhayam Murali Release
Idhayam Murali, directed and produced by Aakash Baskaran with Dawn Pictures as co-producer, stars Atharvaa Murali in the lead role. The film explores the bittersweet realities of unrequited, one-sided love, featuring Fahadh Faasil, Preity Mukhundhan, and Kayadu Lohar in crucial roles.
Thaman S, who composes the music for the film, also makes a comeback as an actor. Popular social media influencer Niharika NM plays an important role in the romantic drama, which was scheduled for theatrical release on July 10.
This isn’t the first time a production house has faced payment disputes affecting release schedules in the South Indian film industry.
What Happens Next?
The legal battle between Sudha Kongara and Dawn Pictures over the alleged ₹8.39 crore unpaid remuneration will likely determine the fate of both Parasakthi‘s satellite release and Idhayam Murali‘s theatrical debut. The production house has yet to publicly respond to the allegations.
With the July 8 court deadline approaching, the coming days will be crucial for resolving this controversy and clarifying the release plans for Idhayam Murali.
