Story:
A young woman named Mary is tragically murdered in Vizag, presenting a significant challenge for the police in their investigation. One officer proposes that a local detective from Srikakulam, known as Sherlock Holmes (Vennela Kishore), would be the most suitable person to crack the case. Upon being assigned the task, Sherlock discovers that there are seven potential suspects linked to the murder. The film’s central narrative revolves around how this quirky local detective identifies these seven suspects and ultimately finds the killer.
Performances:
Vennela Kishore is impressive in his role as Sherlock. His performance is well-measured, avoiding unnecessary dramatization. The director skillfully integrates his comedy timing in a few crucial scenes such as the conclusion. Ananya Nagalla displays a compelling performance as her character exhibits good variations, which she portrays convincingly. Supporting actors Anish Kuruvilla, Prabhakar, and Ravi Teja were okay in their respective roles.
Analysis:
The film’s title Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes and an actor like Vennela Kishore playing it naturally raises the expectations. However, the director Mohan failed to capitalize on this interesting premise and was successful only in parts. The film lacks significant innovation in presenting the whodunit theme and the conventional storytelling, coupled with a lackluster screenplay, limits its ability to be an interesting thriller. The initial proceedings look very amateurish, and the introduction of Vennela Kishore makes the narrative somewhat interesting, and again it falls flat. The second half has some better moments towards the climax, but it was too late by then. Even the surprises at the end were not handled properly.
Positives:
- Vennela Kishore and Ananya Nagalla’s Performance
- Few fun parts here and there
- Twists towards the end
Negatives:
- Weak Screenplay
- Lack of Required Thrill
- Poor Lip Sync in many scenes
- Mishandling of the crucial backstory
Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes Movie Review and Verdict:
Srikakulam Sherlock Holmes Movie is an uninspiring investigative drama. The performances of Vennela Kishore and Ananya Nagalla, basic theme and some good fun moments work for the film while the uninteresting narration, poor execution of suspense revealing part and casting choice work against it.
