Siva Karthikeyan is one of the leading stars in Kollywood. His range has increased quite well in the recent past. But his latest movie Prince has put brakes on his path to superstardom. The movie is a speed breaker in his path.
Though the movie content is decent, it has become a big disaster. This romantic comedy which was supposed to generate laughs has left distributors unhappy. The losses across Telugu and Tamil markets are huge.
In Tamil, it was sold at 30 crores, but it could only recover 14 crores. In all areas, the movie has sparingly collected 40-50% only, which led to more than 50% losses. While Telugu states, the movie collected a meager 2.5 crores, which is far less than the sensational Jathiratnalu directed by Prince’s director Anudeep. What’s more surprising is Prince has collected less than Siva Karthikeyan’s Varun Doctor.
Prince collected a decent 3.5 crore share in overseas, possibly the only area where the movie did well. All other areas have seen poor collections.
Prince worldwide theatrical business was closed at 48 crores. Hence, the overall loss is almost around 30 crores, and it became the biggest disaster in the career of Siva Karthikeyan. It is actually worrying that good content like this is not getting decent collections.
Trade circles are opining that better promotions or release date would’ve reduced the losses of Prince. Ukrainian actress Maria Ryaboshapka is the lead actress and Thaman scored music for this romcom.
