It is very well known to everyone that Samantha’s Shaakuntalam and Raghava Lawrence’s Rudhrudu have released this Friday in competition. Both the films belong to different genres. While Shaakuntalam is a period mythological romantic drama, Rudhrudu is a complete action revenge drama.
So, the trade circles had their set expectations on these two movies based on their buzz, but both the films have failed to get good numbers at the box office. Both the films have opened with poor numbers, as the combined share of Telugu States will be around 1.5 Crores.
Rudhrudu movie’s pre business is 7 Crores and Shaakunthalam’s pre business of Telugu states is valued more than 15 Crores. Now break even for both the movies looks like impossible as the collections are not showing any signal of upward trend after a deplorable start at the box office.
Shaakuntalam is inspired by Kalidasa’s internationally acclaimed play, Abhigyana Shakuntalam. Gunasekhar directed the film. Samantha played the lead and titular role in the film as Shakuntala. Dev Mohan played her husband, King Dushyanta. Neelima Guna and Dil Raju produced the film under the banners of Gunaa Team works and Sri Venkateswara Creations. Mani Sharma composed the music for the film. The film also marks the debut of Allu Arjun’s daughter, Allu Arha, as a child artist, who played King Bharata’s role in the film.
Rudhrudu is Raghava Lawrence’s Telugu release after a gap of more than two years. Lawrence earlier impressed the Telugu audience with his Muni and Kanchana film series. Now he is back Rudhrudu, an action revenge drama. This time, Lawrence has just acted as the lead and not handled the direction. Kathiresan is the director and producer of the film.
