Scene Censor and Business Report: Suriya’s Film Is Already in Profit

Suriya's Scene needs to collect 200 Cr gross worldwide to achieve break even.

Suriya’s Scene is all set for its Diwali release on November 6. The film has been cleared by the censor board, and on the business front, it has already turned profitable before a single ticket is sold.

Scene Censor Details

  • Certificate: U/A
  • Runtime: 149 minutes (2 hours 29 minutes)

At under two and a half hours, Scene has a crisp runtime for a big star film.

Suriya’s Third Release of the Year

Scene is Suriya’s third film this year, after the successful runs of Karuppu and Vishwanath and Sons. The film is directed by Jithu Madhavan, the Malayalam filmmaker behind Romancham and Aavesham.

Made on a Smart Budget

One of the biggest strengths of Scene is its budget. The film is reported to have been made for around ₹50 Cr, excluding Suriya’s remuneration, since Suriya is the producer of the film

That’s a very reasonable figure for a Suriya film. Malayalam directors are known for working with fewer shooting days, and for focusing on characters rather than huge sets. Scene follows the same approach. It is a quirky action entertainer driven by its characters, not by expensive set pieces.

Already Profitable Before Release

The smart budget has paid off. The film’s entire production cost has been recovered from its non-theatrical rights alone, including digital, satellite and music.

That means Scene is already a profitable film on the table, even before its theatrical numbers come in.

Scene Business at a Glance

  • Budget: Around ₹50 Cr (excluding Suriya’s remuneration)
  • Non-Theatrical: Entire budget recovered
  • Status: Profitable before release

The Hit Target: ₹200 Cr

On the theatrical side, the film’s rights were sold at prices that set a clear target. To be called a hit at the box office, Scene needs to gross ₹200 Cr or more worldwide.

That isn’t a big task for Suriya right now. His last two releases, Karuppu and Vishwanath and Sons, both grossed over 200 Cr , with Karuppu even going past 300 Cr.

Strong Buzz Ahead of Release

Scene is also carrying a strong buzz. In Kerala, the film crossed ₹2 Cr in pre-sales within 24 hours of bookings opening, and it is set for Suriya’s biggest-ever opening in the state. In Tamil Nadu, the new GO allowing six shows a day from 6 AM will give it more shows in its first week.

With Naslen and Nazriya Nazim in the cast, and Jithu Madhavan’s track record behind it, Scene has all the ingredients to do very big at the box office with positive word of mouth.
