Sankranti South Indian films’ overseas closing numbers and verdicts

This year Sankranti saw the release of Waltair Veerayya and Veera Simha Reddy from Telugu and Thunivu and Varisu from Tamil industry. All four south Indian films movies featured top stars and fans were excited to watch Chiru vs Balayya and Ajith vs Vijay at the box office.

While Varisu and Thunivu were released on January 11th to packed houses across Tamil Nadu, Veera Simha Reddy was released on January 12th to Balayya’s career-best openings. Waltair Veerayya was released on January 13th and had a terrific opening weekend and is continuing its victorious run even on weekdays.

All four south Indian films are closing in on their overseas run. Waltair Veerayaa fetched a solid $3.22 million with a share of Rs 12.75 crores. Balakrishna hit the million dollar mark overseas with Veera Simha Reddy fetching a figure of $1.59 million with Rs 5.2 crores share.

Tamil movies Thunivu and Varisu collected $6.65 million (Rs 23 crores share) and $10.6 million ( Rs 37 crores respectively.

Collections-wise, in Telugu, Waltair Veerayya triumphed over Veera Simha Reddy while Varisu surpassed Thunivu in this Sankranti clash. Overall, movie lovers were the real winners as they got to witness four big-star movies for the festive season.
