SS Rajamouli’s RRR has created a massive buzz all across the nation. The film has every ingredient of a mass commercial blockbuster and if the promotions are anything to go by, the entire unit has massive confidence in the content. However, despite so many advantages, the project is still the riskiest of Rajamouli’s career with a lot riding on it.
Big budget entertainers are not a new thing for the ace director. His earlier projects like Baahubali 1 & 2, Magadheera, and Eega had a lot of risk elements. Despite the risk elements, these films were made with massive budgets. The movies were even released with deficits but turned out hugely profitable to the producers on their release. All these films were blockbusters and Industry Hits and made SS Rajamouli a name to reckon with on national level.
In case of RRR, the situation was expected to be quite different. The risk element was supposed to be lesser than before. With stars of the caliber of Tarak and Charan in hands and a successful pan-India track record, RRR was expected to have a safer path for its release. With Rajamouli’s market pan-India hovering around Rs 500-600 crores, RRR was expected to release with a table profit.
However, because of the Corona-infused lockdown and AP government tickets issue, the film is at massive risk. The constant delays have caused a spike in interest rates and tickets issues in AP have brought down the pre-release bizz.
Adding to this, the new variant has caused many states to impose occupancy restrictions and night curfews. This would also impact the movie business on a pan-India level. The tension prevailing before the RRR release is probably that most Rajamouli has faced before any of his earlier movies.
