Mythri Movie Makers, who recently acquired the Nizam rights for Kanguva, initially promised a record-breaking release with exclusive shows, a highlight at the pre-release event.
However, it now appears that even securing a decent number of screens might be challenging. One reason is the strong performance of Diwali releases that continue to draw audiences, alongside the competition from Matka, which is scheduled to release on the same day.
A more pressing concern, however, seems to stem from disagreements over profit-sharing terms. Sources indicate that Mythri Movies has requested a shift in the percentage terms with exhibitors, which has not been well-received. Asian Cinemas and PVR, some of the key players in the distribution network, are reportedly reluctant to accept Mythri’s proposed terms, resulting in a delay in opening bookings for Kanguva.
The exhibitors’ resistance is significant enough that ongoing discussions are attempting to resolve the issue, although it remains unclear whether an agreement will be reached in time.
Unfortunately, this isn’t the first instance where Mythri Movies has encountered distribution challenges in the Nizam region, with similar issues having affected previous releases as well. It remains to be seen whether the parties involved can come to a consensus, allowing for a smooth release of Kanguva in the region.
