Gopichand’s Ramabanam is the latest release this week. The film is finally in front of the audience after continuous promotions and the team has promised wholesome entertainment for all sections of the audience. This is the third film in Sriwass- Gopichand combination after Lakshyam in 2007 and Loukyam in 2014. Both these movies were successful and the combo is now looking for a hat trick. Let’s find out if the movie succeeded in getting the duo their third consecutive hit.

Story: Vicky (Gopichand) gets estranged from his brother Rajaram (Jagapathy Babu) and family after a conflict and claims he’ll become something very big someday. He lands in Koland becomes a powerful don. As fate would have it, he comes back home for his love Bhairavi (Dimple Hayathi). What happens when he heads back home? What kind of problems crop up for Rajaram and how Vicky solves them is what the movie follows.

Analysis: Ramabanam has roles that each of the characters in the movie has played before. Gopichand as a brother who can go to dangerous extents, Jagapathy Babu as a doting brother and family man is something that we have seen in countless movies. So there’s nothing unique and out of the box in terms of performance. Both Gopichand and Jagapathy Babu are adequate in their roles. Dimple Hayathi plays a typical love interest of the lead and has no substantial role much like the rest of the extended cast.

Plus Points:

  • Comedy scenes
  • Fights

Minus Points:

  • Routine story
  • Predictable screenplay
  • Weak antagonist
  • No engaging tracks

Verdict

Ramabanam is a movie that might have worked 15 years ago. There is absolutely no novelty in the movie’s treatment and narration. The typical family entertainer laced with some action follows some tried and tested formulas which become quite predictable from the very beginning. Apart from some moments of entertainment in terms of comedy and few fights, there is nothing to keep the audience hooked to their seats.
