The Second Part of Mani Ratnam’s Magnum Opus Ponniyin Selvan was released in the theaters on Friday and received a good response from the audience, critics also raved about Mani Ratnam’s classy narration and his aesthetic sense. The film opened with a nationwide collection of Rs 28 crores.

Despite being a sequel of an all-time blockbuster in Tamil, PS 2 opened lower than part 1 numbers even with a record release. In Tamil Nadu the film opened with 17 Crores Gross and in Karnataka 3.5 Crores, Telugu states 2.5 Crores, Kerala 2.8 Crores and the rest of India’s gross is around 2.5 Crores. Overall, the all India Gross of Ponniyin Selvan 2 on 1st day is 28.3 Crores, which is a below par opening for the film.

The weak buzz before the pre-release might be the reason for the below par numbers on the 1st day. However, as the film received good talk, the trade circles are expecting it to collect big numbers on the weekend.
