Shraddha Kapoor

Shraddha Kapoor, born on March 3, 1987, in Mumbai, Maharashtra, is a popular Indian actress and playback singer primarily working in Hindi cinema. Hailing from a family deeply rooted in the film industry, she is the younger child of veteran actor Shakti Kapoor and classical singer Shivangi Kolhapure. She is also the niece of actress Padmini Kolhapure and great-niece of the Mangeshkar siblings.

Kapoor completed her schooling at Jamnabai Narsee School and later attended the American School of Bombay. Although she enrolled at Boston University to major in psychology, she dropped out in her first year to pursue acting full-time.

Early Career and Breakthrough

Kapoor made her Bollywood debut in 2010 with a brief role in the heist film Teen Patti. While the film wasn’t a commercial success, she earned a Filmfare Award nomination for Best Female Debut. She followed this with her first leading role in the 2011 teen drama Luv Ka The End.

Her major breakthrough came in 2013 when she starred as Aarohi Keshav Shirke, a small-town bar singer, in Mohit Suri’s highly successful romantic drama Aashiqui 2. The film was a significant box office hit and earned Kapoor widespread recognition, including her first Filmfare Award nomination for Best Actress.

Establishing Herself in Bollywood

Following Aashiqui 2, Kapoor delivered a critically acclaimed performance in Vishal Bhardwaj’s 2014 drama Haider, an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, where she played a character based on Ophelia. She firmly established herself as a leading actress with starring roles in several commercially successful films, including:

Beyond acting, Kapoor is a trained classical singer and has lent her voice to several songs in her films, such as “Galliyan” from Ek Villain. She is also a celebrity endorser for various brands and launched her own clothing line, IMARA, in 2015.

Kapoor has received multiple awards and recognitions throughout her career, including the Searchlight Award for Best Actress in 2012 for Luv Ka The End, and the Zee Cine Award for Best Actor – Female in 2025 for Stree 2. She has also been featured on Forbes India’s Celebrity 100 list and Forbes Asia’s 30 Under 30 list.
