Kingdom Fails to Break Even

Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom was released in theaters amidst good expectations, but the film failed to perform well despite getting decent reviews from audiences and critics. The Kingdom fails to achieve break-even.

Directed by Gowtam Tinnanuri, the film had a breakeven target of 90 Cr gross, and it has collected around 75 Cr gross till now, which is almost closing for the film. So, it means Vijay Deverakonda’s Kingdom fails to achieve break-even.

With two major releases scheduled for this Thursday—War 2 and Coolie—it is safe to assume that the Kingdom film has reached the end of its run.

War 2 Hindi Advance Sales Struggle

The Telugu pre-release event for War 2 took place last night, where NTR, Hrithik Roshan, and other unit members spoke highly of the film, much to the excitement of fans. However, War 2 Hindi advance sales still continue to struggle.

War 2 Overseas advance bookings opened a few days back, with both Telugu and Hindi versions having slower advance bookings. Understandably, the Telugu version will be slow, as the Spy series does not have any following in the Telugu market.

Also, at the same time, the clash with Coolie also impacts War’s sequel in a big way. But the Hindi version’s low advance bookings are a shocker to everyone.

In India, the advance bookings opened on Saturday evening, and the initial trend in India is also not impressive for now. The film sells around 25K tickets in national chains, which is nowhere near the trend of films like Jawan, Pathaan, Pushpa 2, Tiger 3, and Animal.

Hrithik Roshan and NTR’s War 2 Hindi advance sales still continue to struggle, and they are even lower than this year’s releases, Sikandar, Saiyaara, and Chhaava. 

The Hindi version has initial expectations of 50 Cr – 55 Cr opening net, but at the current trend, the opening is likely to be in the range of 30 Cr, and if the momentum picks up highly in these 3 days and if the movie receives unanimous positive WOM, then it may take a 40 Cr+ opening.

Mahesh Babu’s Athadu had a good opening upon its re-release and recorded the 5th highest opening number for a re-released film. However, because of its huge business, the Athadu 4K buyer faces losses now.

When it comes to re-releases in Telugu cinema, undoubtedly, Mahesh Babu is the biggest star, and there was a huge demand for his classic film, Athadu.

Naturally, a big competition happened for the rights, and the rights were sold for a sensational price of 3.2 Cr for a one-year validation period. Including expenses, the total cost is around 3.5 Cr for the buyer.

The only positive sign is that the buyer has some more months’ time to recover this. After a few months’ gap, if Athadu 4K re-releases again and if it makes some money at the box office, then the buyer will be in a comfortable zone.

“Arabia Kadali” is a Telugu original series that Prime Video released this weekend. The series, which features Satyadev and Anandhi in the main parts, is currently available for streaming in a number of languages. Let’s see how it has been shaped up in our review.

Story:

Badri, a fisherman from Andhra Pradesh, struggles with debt but hopes for a brighter future with his childhood sweetheart, Ganga. He heads out from his village to Gujarat for fishing. However, his dreams take a hit when his boat unintentionally sails into Pakistani territory, and he, along with his team, gets caught and thrown in jail. Back at home, Ganga tries her best to bring them back. How the journey of these two lovers ends is what the rest of the story is about.

Performances:

Satyadev and Anandhi perform convincingly. With their honest attempts, they create an air of curiosity and make certain heartfelt moments shine. The actors playing the other fishermen and villagers fit perfectly. Kota Jayaram, Harsh Roshan, and Surabhi Prabhavati, the court movie trio, shine. Veterans like Nasser and Dalip Tahil are wasted.

Analysis:

The story of Arabia Kadali, directed by VV Surya Kumar, is based on true incidents. Fishermen hailing from Andhra Pradesh find themselves trapped in Pakistan and push hard for their release.

It is definitely a strong and heartfelt concept, and the viewer can totally see that this show’s story is pretty similar to Naga Chaitanya and Sai Pallavi’s Thandel that came out earlier this year.

But Arabia Kadali misses the mark and has a tough time making the most of its source material. Though it has a good dialogue here and there or there is an attempt to bring the emotion, it misses the mark in creating a genuine emotional atmosphere that gives a solid impact.

The romance between Badri and Ganga should have been given more importance. Every now and then, the flashback scenes attempt to highlight their deep love, but it does not really hit hard. The tension between the two villages is just typical, but a few moments between them during the jail period come good.

The so-called bad guys, the police and military folks in Pakistan, come off as cartoonish and do not seem like real people. The show relies on outdated concepts, like a female doctor in prison teaming up with Badri and her lawyer husband. 

The episode of a cop from a Pakistani prison who despises Indians comes to terms with his judgement after a hero helps him protect his family, creating the required dramatic effect, though it appears predictable from the get-go.

How Ganga fights to liberate the fishermen feels impactful sometimes, but overall, it could have been handled better. On that note, the last episode gets a little more exciting, and the series ends on a better note.

Arabian Kadali Review and Verdict:

Arabia Kadali is a survival/emotional drama based on true incidents. The performances of Satyadev and Aanandhi and some heartfelt moments, along with good visuals, work well for the series, but the inconsistent emotion and dullness in the proceedings make it just an okay watch.

Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu: Part 1— Sword vs. Spirit was released in theaters last month and ended up as a massive disaster at the box office. Hari Hara Veera Mallu’s producer loses over 100 Cr.

The film was on sets for a long time, and it also changed a few dates for its theatrical release before arriving on July 24, 2025. As the producer brought the money from financiers, big interest piled up over the years, which made it a costly project.

Overall from theatricals and non-theatricals, the producer said to get in the range of 175 Cr, whereas the budget is in the range of 300 Cr. 

Which means Pawan Kalyan’s Hari Hara Veera Mallu’s producer loses over 100 Cr. The fans also felt very bad with such a disastrous result, and they have put hopes on PK’s upcoming biggie, OG.
