Entertainment Tax Down! TN Govt’s Double Treat for Theatres

0

Theatre owners across Tamil Nadu have long been urging the government to reduce the local body entertainment tax and permit the screening of cricket and other sports events in cinema halls. With declining box office performance and the inconsistent success rate of films, theatre maintenance has become increasingly difficult. Moreover, audiences are not turning up in large numbers for every release, adding to the challenges.

Now, theatre owners finally have a reason to cheer. The Tamil Nadu government is reportedly considering a significant relief measure by reducing the local body entertainment tax from the current 8% to 4%. This move is expected to ease financial pressure on exhibitors and help them sustain operations during dull film seasons.
In another welcome development, the state government is also said to be granting permission for screening live sports events, including IPL and other major cricket matches, in theatres. This is expected to attract more footfall and generate alternative revenue, especially during peak sporting seasons.

An official Government Order (GO) regarding both decisions is expected soon. These policy changes, once implemented, will provide much-needed support to the theatre industry and bring a new wave of audience engagement beyond cinema screenings.

All South Indian Industry Hits Are Sequels

0

The huge success of the ‘Baahubali’ series sparked the trend of sequels becoming increasingly popular. ‘Baahubali 2’ was not only a commercial success in Tollywood, but it also set a new standard for Indian film as a whole. Since then, sequels have developed as a guaranteed recipe for attracting large audiences in all South Indian film industries.
In Kollywood, ‘2.0’, the sequel to ‘Robo’, made ripples and stood out as an industry hit. Sandalwood had similar success with ‘KGF Chapter 2’, which dominated box office nationwide. Recently, in Mollywood, ‘Empuraan’, the much-anticipated sequel to ‘Lucifer’, broke records previously held by ‘Manjummel Boys’, emerging as the next industry hit.
The sequel wave isn’t slowing down anytime soon. Tollywood has officially announced massive projects like ‘Salaar 2’, ‘Kalki 2’, ‘Jai Hanuman’, and ‘Pushpa 3’. Kollywood is gearing up with ‘Jailer 2’ and ‘Kaithi 2’. Sandalwood continues the legacy with ‘Kantara 2’ and ‘KGF Chapter 3’, while Mollywood plans to extend the ‘Lucifer’ universe with ‘L3’.
With many other sequels also under production, it’s clear that the South Indian film industry is in the golden era of franchise cinema, where continuity is driving creativity and commercial success alike.

Coolie starring Rajinikanth is currently undershoot and the film is riding high with the buzz. Fans and Audience have been eagerly waiting for the release date announcement. The Team has just revealed it, which came as a surprise to all. Coolie is all set to release on 14th August, creating a clash with another biggie, War 2 starring Hrithik Roshan and NTR which will also release on the same date.

War 2 is being made on a large scale budget involving both the Actors. The expectations are also sky high for this film. The film will have great audience pull from Tollywood and Bollywood. Now, Coolie is also set to impact War 2 in the Telugu Market. Likewise, War 2 also enjoys a popularity in the Tamil Market which may dent Coolie’s prospects.

Normally, a Rajinikanth starrer may not be a big competition to NTR’s film in Telugu States. But Coolie has the extra addition of star cast involving Nagarjuna, Upendra, and Aamir Khan with Lokesh Kanagaraj being the Director. So, Coolie also gets a big opening very likely in Telugu States.

But, as the team of Coolie expects big numbers in the Hindi market, this will be affected by War 2 undoubtedly. Both films have been positioning themselves as pan-India projects and aim to go big. Both the films are a 1000 crore grossing potential films. So, it needs to be seen how they would perform in this competition.

0

Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly created a superb craze with its posters, and especially the teaser gave a proper high for the fans and set massive expectations on the film along with taking the pre-release buzz to a completely new level. However, Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly trailer disappoints.

After the teaser, 2 songs have been released and received a good response. Now, the most anticipated trailer has been released this evening, and it gets a mixed response.

Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly Trailer Falls Short of the Expectations

The good in the trailer is the looks and mannerisms of Ajith Kumar, which are impressive. Also, the dialogues are impactful. However, the biggest minus point for the trailer is the way they have cut it and the background score given by GV Prakash Kumar.

Good Bad Ugly Trailer: Full Of Ajith’s Previous Films’ References

The BGM for the initial 30 seconds of the trailer was good, but the remaining portion seems completely out of sync with the content. Additionally, the trailer cut could have been better, as it is filled only with heroic moments and does not explore the story much.

But still, there are enough moments that will enthrall the fans. Trisha and Prabhu delivering reference dialogues of Gambler and Billa was cool in the trailer. Also, Arjun Das gives a warning to AK with the iconic dialogue of “My F***king Game,” from Gambler looked superb.

Ajith’s Good Bad Ugly trailer disappoints, and it falls way short of the teaser. But whatever the buzz raised till now is enough to bring massive openings at the box office, and then the talk will decide the fate of the film.
