Mammootty wins best lead actor in Kerala State Awards

Saji Cherian, Minister of Kerala for Cultural Affairs, declared the winners of the 53rd Kerala State Film Award on Friday, July 21. The winners were selected by a jury headed by well-known Bengali film directors and screenwriters, consisting of Gauthami (actor), Hari (Cinematographer), Jency Gregory (Singer), and D (Sound Designer) Yuvaraj. The award ceremony was hosted by Kerala’s prestigious state-level chalanachitra academy. Malayalam Megastar Won the best actor award for Lijo Jose Peliserry’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam.

The awards ceremony was initially scheduled to take place on July 19, but was postponed to Friday following the death of former Kerala chief minister Oommen Chandy. This year’s edition was different from the previous ones as it witnessed an interesting clash of the titans of the industry with Mammootty facing off against a host of big names such as Kunchako Boban, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Darshana Rajendran, Bindu panicker, Lijo Jose Pellissery, Ratheena, and Kamal KM.

Mammootty won the Best Actor award for Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam and Vincy Aloshious the Best Actress award for Rekha. Lijo Joseph Pellissery won the Best Director award for Ariyippu. The award for Best Film was given to the highest grossing movie of the year from a list of 154 films. In a close race, Mammootty won the award for Best Actor for the film. The award for Best Actress for the movie Rekha was won by Vincy Aloshious.

While Kamal KM won the award for Best Writer for the film Pada, Ratheesh Balakrishnan Poduval won the award for Best Screenplay (Original) for the film Nna Thaan Case Kodu, and Rajesh Pinnadan bagged the award for Best Screenplay (Adaptation) for the film Oru Thekkan Thallu Case.

Suriya’s upcoming big pan India film Kanguva is gearing up to show first glimpse to the worldwide audiences. Ahead of Suriya’s birthday on July 23, the makers of his next, Kanguva, have released the first look poster of the film. Suriya will be seen on screen with actress Disha Patani for the first time. The first look poster only showed a glimpse of the actor’s arm carrying a sword. He is seen in a warrior avatar with tribal tattoos on his arm. The makers raised the fans’ expectations today by announcing the first glimpse of the film will be released tomorrow 12:01AM. Earlier this year, director Siva had that said he was eagerly awaiting to finish production on the film soon. “We are delighted to announce the title of Suriya 42 as KANGUVA, who is a man with the power of fire, majestically represented by Suriya on the screen, which will be a memorable, majestic, unique and interesting experience for cinema lovers. We will complete the shooting of the film and announce the release date at the earliest,” read the statement.

The film has been shot in Goa, Chennai and various other locations. Disha Patani is the female lead and Devi Sri Prasad of Pushpa: The Rise fame will compose the music for the film.

It is very well known to everyone that Nata Simham Nandamuri Balakrishna’s upcoming film is Bhagavanth Kesari, directed by Anil Ravipudi. A representative of actor Vivek Oberoi and his wife Priyanka have filed a fraud case on their behalf against at least three of Vivek’s business partners for allegedly defrauding him of RS 1.55 crore. Oberoi claims that the accused induced the actor to spend money on an event and film production firm that promised lucrative profits by forcing him to do so. However, subsequently, the defendants used the money for self-serving purposes.

The MIDC police on Wednesday registered a cheating case based on the allegations. The accused include film producers and event organizers Sanjay Saha, his mother Nandita Saha and Radhika Nanda.

Deven Bafna filed a complaint on behalf of the actor and his wife, alleging that the accountant had filed a complaint for them. He told the police that both parties were expected to start a company of events specializing in the organization of events related to the film industry and film production.

“The Oberois had floated a company named Oberoi Organics in 2017. Since it was not doing too well, they decided to first bring in the three accused as partners in the firm, then dissolve that business and convert it into an events business under the name of Anandita Entertainment,” Bafna said in his statement to the police. According to him, the two parties reached an agreement in July 2020.

Several months after the Oberoi line decided to transfer its shares to another company it owned, Oberoi Mega Entertainment, the complaint stated. The day-to-day work of the joint venture was to be looked after by Sanjay Saha and Radhika Nanda, it explained.

“Oberoi was informed about the mishandling of funds within the venture by an employee in April 2022, after which the services of Bafna were taken to sort the issues out. He then found out that Sanjay Saha had used the company’s money for various personal reasons, including paying the life insurance premium for his mother. Nanda, too, had withdrawn money from the company,” said an officer from MIDC police.

According to his statement, the two partners allegedly took over Rs 58 lakh from the account using the account statements. Oberoi then confronted his partners.
