The box office run of Avatar: Fire and Ash continues to be underwhelming, as the film has failed to meet expectations. Based on current trends, it appears almost certain that the movie will not reach the $2 billion mark, a milestone achieved by the first two parts of the Avatar franchise.
The original Avatar was a global sensation, becoming the highest-grossing film of all time with collections of over $2.9 billion, including its re-release. Avatar: The Way of Water, though not as strong in word of mouth as the first film, still delivered massive numbers, earning more than $2.3 billion and finishing as the third biggest global grosser, after Avatar and Avengers: Endgame.
In contrast, Avatar: Fire and Ash is unlikely to reach those heights because of its underwhelming run. Trade experts estimate its full run may end around $1.6 billion, which is roughly 70% of what Part 2 achieved.
With each installment showing a decline in collections, it remains to be seen what decisions the makers will take for the next part of the franchise.
