Recently most of the films that have been released on OTT had uncut versions on OTT platforms. This was majorly done due to time constraints and censor issues for theatrical release. The best example of this is Animal which had a runtime of 3 hours 21 minutes for the theatrical version but for the OTT streaming, the film has been locked at 3 hours 50 minutes.
Sandeep Reddy Vanga had initially planned the same length for theatres as well but it was a very risky move. Hence he edited the film and released 3 hour 21 minutes version in theatres and planned to release the extended version on OTT. Similar to Animal, few other films have had censor trims which is why they released uncensored versions on Ott platforms
But now Netflix is taking a crucial decision that will change all of this and might put filmmakers in a fix. Going forward, Netflix plans to stream Indian films as censored by CBFC. No more uncut or uncensored versions of Indian films will be made available globally. So whatever is censored for theatres, the same version will be on Netflix as well.
