Varun Sandesh and Shweta Basu Prasad, who enthralled audiences with Kotha Bangaru Lokam (2008), have joined forces after nearly two decades for the thriller Naa Wife Missing. This direct-to-OTT film is now streaming on Aha. Here is our Naa Wife Missing review.
Naa Wife Missing Story
Bala Subramanyam works as an assistant bank manager. He marries Swapna through an arranged marriage. One morning, he goes to the police station and files a complaint that his wife went missing during a temple visit.
The rest of the film explores Swapna’s disappearance, her issues with Balu in their marriage, and what happened to her.
Performances
Varun Sandesh and Shweta Basu Prasad play the lead roles after a long gap. Their screen presence is fine, but the film hardly gives them scope to perform, apart from a few regular emotional scenes. Praveen makes his presence felt, while Mohit Pedada and the others could not do much.
Analysis
Naa Wife Missing is directed by Swathi Prakash Mantripragada, the director behind Varun Sandesh’s Nayanam on ZEE5. The film starts on an interesting note, as the protagonist enters the police station to file a complaint about his wife’s disappearance.
Thereafter, the narrative goes on a random note with very little effect on the audience. The backstory of Balu and Swapna does not rise above the basic level. Their first meeting, Swapna’s indifference toward Balu after marriage, and their fallen relationship: nothing works effectively.
The crime angle had the chance to make it engaging, but except for the final twist, the proceedings hardly make an impact. The investigation, the twists and the key reveals about the characters are too beaten to death. The climax twist is better, but the buildup to it could have been much stronger.
Positives
- Varun Sandesh and Shweta Basu Prasad pair
- Climax twist
Negatives
- Dull and ineffective screenplay
- Weak characterisation for the leads
- Poorly handled suspense portions
- No emotional impact
Naa Wife Missing Review and Verdict
Naa Wife Missing has a familiar plot that had the potential to be an engaging relationship drama with a crime touch. But except for a few initial moments and the last 10 minutes, the film emerges as a boring watch.
