Screening paid premieres a day before the actual theatrical release has become a marketing tactic for production companies in Telugu in recent times. But what the makers don’t realize is that pulling off such acts is a double-edged sword.

While a positive response from premieres may double up the advance bookings, a negative reception might kill the film entirely. Hanuman (2024) and Shakuntalam (2023) are some classic examples of these cases, respectively.

Coming to the point of discussion, the makers of Mr. Bachchan chose to go for some limited-paid premieres in India and abroad. Thanks to the team’s promotions,  footfalls were encouraging. However, the word-of-mouth from these special shows is poor, with heavy criticism of the film’s second half.

With this, Mr. Bachchan’s advance bookings slowed down, and it is sure to affect the opening numbers negatively. On the other hand, Double Ismart, the other film in competition for the Independence Day weekend, has picked up some momentum in terms of bookings.
