Megastar Chiranjeevi’s recent Telugu Political Action Drama Godfather was released on the festival of Dussehra and opened to a good response from the audience and critics as well.
Coming to the Box Office, Godfather has had a strong start on the first day. The film, which also has a strong attraction for Hindi-speaking belts, with Salman Khan doing an extended cameo, managed to cross almost Rs 90 crores gross worldwide in its first week.
Godfather did not have a grand release like other star films did in recent days, with no hiked rates and theaters were also not much huge. Trade circles say that this has affected the openings which would have been 10-15% higher than now. Though the movie didn’t have a grand release, due to the positive word of mouth it holds well on its second day to the weekend.
But after the weekend the movie crashed on weekdays. The combined share of day6 and day7 share is around 2.15 Crores. This makes the total Worldwide 1st week share around 49.5 Crores which is very very disappointing for a big hero film. This is the first time that a top-tier star film failed to cross the 50 crores mark in the first week that too with positive talk.
Looking at the current trend, Godfather may not cross more than 60 crores in its final run. The theatricals of Godfather movies are valued at 80 Crores. Which looks like an impossible task now. Acharya in Summer was a disaster at the Box Office and now Godfather too failed. Mega fans are worried about back to back failures of Chiranjeevi and are hoping that he will come back with his next movie.
Godfather, directed by Mohan Raja, stars Chiranjeevi, Satyadev, and Nayanthara in lead roles. The film is the Telugu remake of the Malayalam film Lucifer. The original starred Mohanlal and Prithviraj played a cameo who also happens to be the writer/director of the film.
