Mechanic Rocky is Vishwak Sen’s attempt to break his streak of unsuccessful movies and strike gold at the box office. While his last two films, Gaami and Gangs of Godavari, were appreciated for their content, they couldn’t exactly set the box office on fire. Let’s see if his third attempt in 2024 manages to do so.
Story:
Rakesh, ( Vishwak Sen ) a happy-go-lucky young mechanic who must take on the ruthless land grabber Rankireddy to save his beloved ancestral car garage. During the process, he uncovers some unexpected truths. How he tackles the situation is what this action drama follows.
Performances:
Vishwak as Mechanic Rocky does a great job balancing out emotions and comedy. With Mechanic Rocky, his off-screen antics for promotions have been completely matched up with the on-screen performance. The funny banter scenes between Naresh, Harsha and Vishwak Sen have landed well on the screen too. Naresh and Viva Harsha’s comedy timing was spot on and delivered some good entertainment. On the flip side, Vishwak’s love track with Meenakshi Chowdhary is a letdown and looks very dull on the screen. Shraddha Srinath gets a very meaty role and does live up to the expectations. Raghu Ram’s much-hyped appearance is quite caricaturish and is one of the most poorly written characters of his career. Sunil’s negative character as Ranki Reddy is another bright spot in the film and after a long time, his negative shades have been utilized well. Vishwadev is a huge surprise in the film and gives an emotional boost to the proceedings
Analysis :
The film does live up to what was promised during promotions and generates enough laughs and thrills to make you sit in the theater with attention. The first half runs pretty flat and there isn’t much there except the Viva Harsha portions, Vishwak’s performance, and the background score by Jakes Bejoy. The cinematography throughout the film gets very repetitive with several drone shots of the car chases around literally the same roads of Hitech City and the Financial District. The screenplay is most of the time well-paced and the flatness in the first half was well covered with a direct introduction of the conflict in the initial minutes of the film itself instead of dragging ahead till the interval block.
The second half of the film truly delivers on what Vishwak Sen promised. A racy screenplay, ample twists, and decent comedy make it an extremely engaging watch. The editing and cinematography were good and set the tone very well. Overall, the car chase sequences could have been trimmed a little bit and repetitive shots could have been avoided. The songs and love track are quite routine and drag the film and may bore many.
Positives :
Vishwak Sen
Good Second Half
Viva Harsha comedy timing
BGM
Negatives:
Flat first half
Songs
Boring love track
Repetitive drone shots
Verdict :
Mechanic Rocky is a commercial entertainer that offers a few laughs and moments of intrigue but struggles to engage overall. The narrative in the first half drags without significant progression until the interval. The second half improves slightly with a few interesting twists, but even these are presented in a lackluster manner, failing to sustain interest. Vishwak Sen fits well into a role tailored for him, reminiscent of his previous performances, but the familiarity adds little novelty. While the film had the potential to deliver much more with its premise, it falters due to underwhelming execution. The entertainment factor barring comedy portions from Naresh and Viva Harsh doesn’t quite land, and the twists lack the punch to make a lasting impact. Ultimately, Mechanic Rocky misses the mark and ends up as another average watch.
