Mathu Vadalara 2, the much-awaited sequel of the 2019 comedy thriller Mathu Vadalara is here and there’s quite some excitement among fans to see what Ritesh Rana has packed this time. The first film was a sleeper hit laced with amazing entertainment chiefly driven by Satya’s impeccable timing. The success of part 1 has created major anticipation for the movie and Satya’s Yesudasu character. Let’s see if the movie has managed to recreate the magic of the first film.
Story:
Babu Mohan (Sri Simha) and Yesuadasu (Satya) are special agents and part of the HE Team, a unit specializing in solving kidnappings. Just like in the first part, the duo manages to swindle some money from their kidnap rescues. Things take a drastic turn when Babu and Yesudasu find themselves entangled in murder accusations. What’s this mystery and how they manage to get out of this mess is what the movie follows.
Performances:
Sri Simha has shown decent improvement from his debut film but has a long way to go. Satya as Yesudasu is the soul of the movie and balances the movie on his shoulders. His one-liners, impeccable timing, and unique delivery make the first half extremely entertaining. He has stood up to expectations and single-handedly makes Mathu Vadalara 2 enjoyable. Faria Abdullah and a special agent along with Sunil performed decently. Vennela Kishore as a movie star manages to deliver some laughs but his potential has been wasted here.
Analysis:
Mathu Vadalara 2 has been shot on a bigger scale and the production values are impressive. Comparisons are bound to happen with Mathu Vadalara and that’s where this sequel may fall short. Satya has held the movie together and is the soul of this crime comedy. However, barring a few twists and interval blocks, the movie falls short of delivering the thrills and surprises. The movie often wanders away into a different zone due to silly sub-tracks and poor characterizations such as Vennela Kishore’s and Ajay’s. It fails to grasp the audience’s attention in a way a crime thriller should. If only the second-half writing choices were better, Mathu Vadalara 2 would have been a riot and delivered what it ventured out to.
Positives:
- Satya
- Dialogues
- First half entertainment
- Interval twist
Negatives:
- Second half writing
- Vennela Kishore track
- Certain unnecessary scenes
Verdict:
Overall, Mathu Vadalara 2 evokes laughter, surprise, and thrills as it promised. However, one would feel the film couldn’t live up to its potential completely due to some poor writing choices. Watch it if you’re a fan of the genre and definitely watch it for Satya.
