At Corona, OTT platforms offer record prices for movies and bought rights in all industries. Many films achieved breakeven with just digital rights, and for most of films, half of budget was recovered from OTT rights.
But in recent months, OTT platforms have stopped offering high prices due to the losses. Many movies are facing troubles as OTT deals are not closing. Few films even shelved after announcements and completion of pre-production works due to no OTT business.
The latest sensational lockbuster, Manjummel Boys, is also facing a tough phase to lock the deal. The makers are quoting 20 crore for digital rights, but no OTT platform is said to be ready to pay this amount. The high price is one reason, and another reason is late streaming. As the film is running with super strong numbers, the makers do not want to stream the film for the next two months. With this, the OTT platforms are not ready to set prices. We need to see if makers will compromise on early OTT streaming or quoting prices.
Now, every film is getting an effect from the change in OTT rights. Pan India big films are also getting affected by this. Many small and medium-budget films are streaming early on OTT to get the business by sacrificing theatrical business.
