Mahavatar Narsimha released as a small film and became a huge blockbuster with collecting more than ₹300 crore at the box office, and the latest news is that the film has been qualified for the prestigious 98th Academy Awards (Oscars) nominations.
The film achieved record-breaking views on Netflix as well. After creating a sensation in both theatres and on OTT, the movie has now earned another rare honor of getting qualified to the Oscars nominations. Whether this film, which has won the hearts of audiences, will make it to the final nomination stage will be known on January 22, 2026.
‘Mahavatar Narsimha’ is produced by Hombale Films. Director Ashwin Kumar made this animated film based on the Narasimha Purana, Vishnu Purana, and Shrimad Bhagavata Purana.
For the 2026 Oscars, 35 animated films are competing for nomination in the final stage, and if ‘Mahavatar Narasimha’ gets nominated, it will become the first Indian animated film to ever receive an Oscar nomination. Because of this, all attention is now focused on the final nomination announcement.
The nomination list for the 98th Academy Awards will be announced on January 22, 2026, and the award ceremony will be held on March 15, 2026.
Meanwhile, ‘Homebound’, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, has already been selected from India to compete at the Oscars. This Hindi-language film has been officially chosen as India’s entry in the Best International Feature Film category.
