After a solid last week with Bimbisara and Sita Ramam creating wonders at box-office, a lot of expectations have been set on Nithiin’s Macherla Niyojakavargam to keep up the momentum. The pre-release buzz has been great for the film and the ‘I am Ready’ song has heightened the positive feelers around this action entertainer. Let’s see if the movie has more to it than just a catchy song.
Story: Set in Macherla where Rajappa (Samuthirakani) rules with an iron fist, Macherla Niyojakavargam follows the story of Siddhu (Nithiin) an IAS officer who wants to restore law and rules to this region. No one dares to contest against Rajappa and this is why he has been winning elections unanimously. What happens when the paths of Siddhu and Rajappa cross? How is Swathi (Krithi Shetty) connected to this tussle is what the story is about.
Performances: Nithiin has gone for an out-and-out mass entertainer and projects himself in a character that is larger than life in many ways. His look has gone under complete makeover and special emphasis has been placed on giving him a mature bureaucrat look. His performance is strictly average and he doesn’t convince us as an IAS officer or a man who can beat goons to the pulp. Samuthirakani is once again typecast in a rural villain role and does what’s expected out of him. Krithi Shetty looks fresh and lively and for the first time her character actually has got scope for performance and is integral to the plot and she does a decent job. The rest of the supporting cast barring Vennela Kishore is disappointing, to say the least. Vennela Kishore is terrific with his comic timing and keeps the movie afloat with constant entertainment dose
Analysis: Macherla Niyojakavargam has all the elements of a typical mass entertainer and you will have to suspend logic to truly get immersed in proceedings. The film is technically good and the production values look rich and the rural setup has been reflected well on screen. With a better screenplay and less cliched scenes, this could have been a winner at the box office. Some fights are well composed and Nithiin’s hard work is visible but might not convince everyone. His dialogue delivery when mouthing heavy preachy dialogues also goes off track and needed better modulation.
Plus Points:
- I am Ready song
- Vennela Kishore
- Production Values
Minus Points:
- Predictable story
- Dull lead performances
- Lack of engaging plot
Verdict: Overall, Macherla Niyojakavargam might appeal to certain mass sections of the audience but they also might lose interest as the movie moves towards the climax. Some fresh sub-plots, tighter screenplay, and shorter runtime would have done a world of good to this film.
