Kushi directed by Shiva Nirvana starring Vijay Devarakonda and Samantha released today amidst high expectations. This is a must-win battle for the duo of Vijay and Samantha who have recently delivered box-office disasters like Liger and Shaakuntalam respectively. Even Shiva Nirvana would be eager to make a strong comeback after his last film Tuck Jagadish’s average OTT reception. Let’s find out if Kushi has lived up to its hype.
Story: The plot follows Viplav (Vijay), who encounters Aaradhya (Samantha) disguised as a Muslim in the enchanting landscapes of Kashmir. Their instant connection leads to a blossoming romance, dominating the film’s breezy first half. Laden with captivating songs, picturesque locations, and a touch of humor, this phase sets the foundation for their relationship. But, what happens when the families enter the story? How do Vijay and Samantha manage to wade through the complexities of family’s contrasting beliefs along with their own personal issues forms the rest of the story.
Performances: Vijay brings the boy next door image out and adapts very well to the character of Viplav. Samantha as usual delivers her best with Chinmayi’s dubbing elevating her performance even more. The pairing of Vijay and Samantha is fresh and quite soothing to watch. The scenes involving them, especially in Kashmir are major assets to the movie. The rest of the cast which includes seasoned performers like Rohini, Sachin Khedekar, Murali Sharma, and Saranya are well cast and have good roles and support the movie pretty well
Positives:
- Vijay and Samantha
- Entertainment Value
- BGM and Songs
- Cinematography
- Climax
Negatives:
- Lack of emotions in Love track
- Unnecessary sub-plots
- Editing
Verdict: Kushi, especially the first half is breezy with good songs, locations, and humour. As it reaches the second half, it suffers from a pacing issue. There are episodes during the film that might test the audience’s patience. The romantic portions work out fine but it could have done wonders if there was a little more emotion behind it. The chemistry between Vijay and Samantha, songs, acting, BGM, and locations work in favor of the movie. Shiva Nirvana skillfully navigates sensitive subjects, fostering meaningful discussions.
