Bollywood actor Ranveer Singh faced strong criticism for his comments about Chavundi Deva, a revered figure from Kantara Chapter 1. During the closing ceremony of the International Film Festival of India in Goa, Ranveer attempted to imitate Rishab Shetty’s performance from the film and referred to Chavundi Deva as a “female ghost.”
His remarks upset many, especially in the Kannada community, who felt the portrayal was disrespectful to their cultural and spiritual beliefs.
Before the event, Rishab Shetty had reportedly advised Ranveer not to impersonate the deity on stage.
Following the backlash, Ranveer Singh issued a public apology. He clarified that his intention was only to appreciate Rishab’s powerful acting in Kantara Chapter 1 and that he deeply respects all cultures, traditions, and beliefs in India. He added, “If I’ve hurt anyone’s sentiments, I sincerely apologise.”
