After a promising opening day, Kannappa has witnessed a significant drop in collections over the weekend. Despite the initial buzz and strong openings, the film saw a noticeable decline on Day 2 and Day 3. By the end of its first weekend, Kannappa managed to earn a worldwide gross of around ₹30 crore, with the distributor share standing close to ₹15 crore.
However, the real blow came on its first Monday, a working day, where the film’s collections saw a major crash, earning less than ₹1 crore in share. This steep decline has raised serious doubts about the film even touching the ₹20 crore share mark.
The makers had earlier stated that Kannappa was mounted on a massive budget of over ₹200 crore. Even if the actual budget is slightly inflated, given the scale, visuals, and star cast, the film needed to earn at least ₹100 crore gross to be considered anywhere near successful. Unfortunately, at this collection rate, the movie is struggling to even reach half of that benchmark.
The film’s sharp decline after a decent start highlights the crucial role of word of mouth and content strength in sustaining box office momentum, especially for big-budget ventures.
