Kaantha: Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati Land in a Legal Trouble

Dulquer Salmaan’s period crime drama, Kaantha, which also stars Rana Daggubati in a crucial role, unexpectedly lands in legal trouble just a few days before its release. The film is scheduled for a grand worldwide release on November 14th.

In a recent interview, Duquer confirmed that Kaantha is a fictional crime drama that is only partly inspired by M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar’s rise and fall, and it is not a proper or total biopic.

“Kaantha” is now facing a legal trouble, with the family of M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar filing a legal case against the filmmakers. Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati, the film’s producers, are named in the petition, which claims they were not informed about the story, did not obtain permission, and that the film portrays M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar in a defamatory light.

The Madras High Court has issued a notice to the filmmakers, with the hearing scheduled for November 18th, while the film is set for release on November 14th. We will have to wait and see how events unfold in the coming days.

Dulquer and Rana need to reach out to the family of M.K. Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, explain the film’s context, and attempt to convince them to withdraw the lawsuit, which appears to be the most viable solution for them.
