Vijay’s Jana Nayagan is getting released on 9th January for Pongal 2026, and with the humongous hype around it, the film creates an all-time record business in its homeland, Tamil Nadu.
Given Vijay’s established stardom in Tamil Nadu and his announcement that “Jana Nayagan” will be his final film, the movie has generated significant anticipation among audiences.
The producers tried to sell the entire Tamil Nadu theatrical rights to a single distributor, but the distributors felt a bit of risk in it, prompting producers to sell the movie to multiple distributors territory-wise. All the territories’ business is said to be closed, and overall Tamil Nadu rights of the film fetched 105 Cr for the producer.

So, Vijay’s Jana Nayagan has registered the best business ever in Tamil Nadu, and to achieve breakeven itself, the film needs to collect more than 200 Cr gross.
So far, only Ponniyin Selvan 1, Leo, and GOAT have made it to the 200 crore club. Given Vijay’s previous two films achieved this despite mixed reviews, distributors are optimistic his final film will easily reach the same target.
Furthermore, there are expectations that Jana Nayagan could become the first 250 Cr grosser in Tamil Nadu.
