Jailer 2 has created all-time records for a Tamil film across almost every market. But in its home state, Tamil Nadu, the Rajinikanth film is set to fall short of the top spot.
Records Across the Map
Jailer 2 has set new Kollywood records in Karnataka, Kerala, the Telugu states and overseas. It is the first Tamil film to cross ₹800 Cr worldwide, the No.1 Tamil film in India.
Short of the Top in Tamil Nadu
Tamil Nadu is the one place where the record has slipped away. The film has collected close to ₹215 Cr gross in the state so far.
That’s a huge number, and the first time a Rajinikanth film has crossed ₹200 Cr in Tamil Nadu. But it’s still below Ponniyin Selvan 1, which holds the all-time record for the state with over ₹230 Cr gross.
New Releases Take Over
Jailer 2 is now running on very limited screens in Tamil Nadu. Most of the screens have gone to the Diwali releases: Suriya’s Scene, Nayanthara’s Mookuthi Amman 2 and Ramayana.
The impact is clear. Yesterday, the film’s Tamil Nadu gross fell to around ₹30 lakh.
Closing Under ₹220 Cr
With collections now this low, Jailer 2 won’t add much more in the state. The film is set to close its Tamil Nadu run under ₹220 Cr gross, more than ₹10 Cr short of Ponniyin Selvan 1.
Who Will Break Ponniyin Selvan 1?
With Jailer 2 falling short, Ponniyin Selvan 1 continues to rule Tamil Nadu. The big question now is which film will finally break its record.
For Jailer 2, the Tamil Nadu number is the only gap in an otherwise record-breaking run.
