The milestones that have defined Tamil cinema in Australia
- First to A$250K: Sivaji The Boss
- First to A$500K: Kabali
- First to A$1M: 2.0
- First to A$1.5M: Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1
- First to A$2M: Jailer 2
Rajinikanth films have crossed four of these five milestones first. The only one that went to another film was A$1.5M, set by Ponniyin Selvan: Part 1, and Jailer 2 has now taken back the top spot.
Three Rajini Films in the Top 6
Rajinikanth has three films in Australia’s top six Tamil grossers: Jailer 2, Jailer and 2.0. Coolie, at No. 5, makes it four in the top 10.
Part of a Global Run
The Australia record is part of Jailer 2’s massive overseas run. The film has crossed ₹250 Cr overseas and became the first Tamil film to cross $25M outside India. Worldwide, it has collected around ₹710 Cr in 11 days, making it Kollywood’s all-time industry hit.
